Eric Swenson has been drawing and painting from childhood. He is a graduate of Missouri State University with a BS in Education to teach art for grades 1-12, and high school debate, dramatics, and English. His experience in the arts includes painting theatre backdrops, trompe l'oeil in homes, and illustrating in newpapers. As a Navy journalist, his articles and drawings appeared in newspapers across the US and in Japan and the Far East. His professional career included writing training courses in Navy schools, and producing, writing, shooting and editing video documentaries for a large Navy Research and Development Lab on Point Loma in San Diego.
Eric specializes in oil impressionistic landscapes and abstracts, and photos that have appeared regularly in juried shows at San Diego Art Institute in Balboa Park and Palm Springs Art Museum. He won first place in photography at the Saddleback Art League in Laguna Niguel in 2004. His digital work took off when his specialty photoshop combination of photos, digital painting, and layering won first place at the La Jolla National Digital Show in 2005. Then came the 'Women On Top' Exhibition and Fundraiser for the San Diego Women's History Museum and Educational Center. He has shown his paintings in the Niguel Art Association in Dana Point and Design Metaphor gallery in Palm Springs, and has had one-man shows in the lobbies of the Laguna Beach Playhouse and Cygnet Theatre in San Diego. There have been honorable mentions for two paintings and two photographs at the SD Art Institute.
In 2006, he was in the 37th Annual National Juried Exhibition at the Palm Springs Art Museum, where he won the Jane Behman Gallery Exhibition Award. He has been juried into four PS Art Museum Artist's Guild shows. In the Palm Springs Public Arts Commission Show in 2008, he won first and second places in Digital division and third in show; and in 2009, he won third place in Digital division. In 2009, he was juried into the PS Stroke Recovery Center's fund raiser show.
San Diego Digital Art Guild (DAG) shows: 'Without Limits' at Expressions of Mexico Gallery in National City 2006; 'Multiple Universes, Beyond Definitions' (with Photo Arts Group--PAG) in Poway 2006; 'Urban Legends and Country Tales' in Bonita 2008; 'Synthesis - Art & science' (with Photo Arts Group--PAG) in Escondido 2009; and 'Spirituality' at the California Art Institute 2009.
Eric won second and third places, and honorable mention in St. Mark's United Methodist Digital Art Shows in 2007 and 2008 and was voted Congregational favorite both years.
